In India, The Design Act, 2000 governs and deals with the mechanism of registration and protection of Industrial Designs.

The types of Industrial Design Applications in India are as follows:

• Non-Convention Application
• Convention Application

In India, the Registration Term of the Industrial Design is 15 years from the Date of Application, and can be renewed only once at the end of the 10th year for 5 more years.

The Effective Date of Registration of the Industrial Design is the Priority Date.

The Time Frame for Examination from the Date of Application in India is 2 months approximately.

An Opposition against the Industrial Design Application can be raised within 6 months from the Date of Publication of the Industrial Design in the Official Gazette.
